Dear comrades,
In recent months, we issued three ICOR statements and resolutions on current issues of global concern:
US imperialism blocks Venezuela and aims for a coup d’état – international solidarity is needed. It was published on 31 December 2025, and now has 33 signatories.
Imperialists, fascists, and Zionists, get out of Syria! Democracy and freedom for the peoples of Syria! Immediate stop to the HTS and Turkish attacks on Rojava! It was published as a statement on 20 January 2026, with 20 signatories. With 31 signatories to date, it became a regular resolution on 3 February.
For a democratic future for Iran. It was published as a statement on 26 January with 19 signatories. Since then, other organizations have signed, some with proposed amendments. With currently 26 signatories, it is close to becoming a regular resolution.
We are now able to publish the comments quite quickly with the necessary signatures as statements. We decided this at the World Conference. We have had good experiences with this, as the declaration can then be further optimized on its way to becoming a resolution and new signatures can be added. This means that the declarations are published quickly, but almost all of them then quickly has become resolutions through new proposals and signatures.
The adoption of the resolutions was always accompanied by a fruitful process of debate. Even before the military intervention of US imperialism in Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Maduro, ICOR called for international solidarity with the Venezuelan people and the other peoples of Latin America who were also under threat. We attacked the US’s alleged justification of drug trafficking as hypocrisy.
It proved to be a good idea for comrades from the respective region, in this case Latin America, PCR-U/Uruguay and OAPCM/Mexico, to take the initiative in particular and propose amendments. The Venezuela resolution was based on a statement by PCR-U/Uruguay. There were various proposals on what solidarity should look like. I rejected the proposal for ICOR to supply weapons to Venezuela because that is not part of our organization’s assigned tasks.
With its resolution on Syria, ICOR takes a clear stand against the inhuman, reactionary forces of HTS, which now form the government in Syria, and condemns them as henchmen of imperialism. In bourgeois politics, on the other hand, the Julani regime is referred to in a seemingly neutral way as a “transitional government.” Changes to this were introduced by the UPML/France and the MLPD/Germany. In the course of events, it became increasingly clear that the HTS gangs are primarily targeting the peoples of northern and eastern Syria and thus the model of Rojava. Our MENA Coordination introduced various amendments: the imperialist goals of disarming the resistance and dividing Syria, including through Turkey and Israel, and the connection to their actions in Palestine. In accordance with our practice since the World Conference, this ICOR statement was initially published as a statement. It is to be welcomed that some organizations contributed to our now having a regular resolution by signing it. This resolution was particularly important to the ICC because the people in Rojava at times felt completely abandoned! We heard that our quick resolution strengthened them.
The statement on the mass protests in Iran clearly calls for solidarity in the struggle for a democratic future for Iran. At the same time, it warns against imperialist interference, both in instrumentalizing the protest movement and in taking aggressive action against Iran from outside. A motion by MENA places the events in Iran in the context of the struggle for the reorganization of the entire region. The main question discussed in the resolution was the extent of imperialist influence on the mass movement and whether we can support these mass protests. Agreement was reached that there are two currents: the progressive one, which wants neither the Shah nor the mullahs, and an imperialist-influenced one, which backs Trump and the Shah’s son.
The BKP/Bulgaria initially stated one-sidedly that the protest movement was “a kind of ‘Maidan’ in favor of the US and Israel” and should therefore be rejected. However, the resolution sides with the progressive current in the protest movement and rejects the reactionary current. After correspondence on this issue, the BKP agreed to the resolution. The ORC/Congo rejected the resolution as a whole. In view of the imperialist threat posed by the US and Israel, it argued that it was in the interests of the peoples of Iran to support the Iranian regime against this threat. In our view, this position does not clearly reflect the class standpoint. For the working class and broad masses in Iran, the reactionary mullah regime cannot be an ally in their struggle for a democratic country. Several organizations have already published their statements on the situation in Iran as monthly contributions on the ICOR website. Other organizations are welcome to do so. And it would be good if three more organizations agreed to the resolution so that we can publish the updated version with further changes as a regular resolution. The resolution points to the important role of the working class in Iran, which we are constantly analyzing further.
Dear comrades, world political events are accelerating, and we have risen to the occasion in recent months. Many organizations are taking action on the basis of and in accordance with the resolutions, but are not reporting on it. This could give the impression that we are taking a theoretical position but are hardly active in practice. This is, of course, not the case–but all the more reason for us to ask you to send us more reports on the practical work with the resolutions. ICOR continues to be challenged to take a position on each issue. Proposals for resolutions from the continents concerned are particularly welcome.
Warm regards and many thanks for your lively initiative!
